Money, possibly one of the biggest stressors and producers of anxious thinking and behaviors. It is very common being an anxiety expert that I hear at some level that financial anxiety is burdening a client. You, reading this article, are probably considering if financial anxiety is a part of you or if you have experienced it to some degree. I am going to take a guess and say yes to both of those pieces. So what exactly is financial anxiety you ask? This is where the thought of money, financial gains, and stability are causing anxious thinking and behaviors.
It causes you to dwell on them and believe that the worst-case scenario is happening. It is also a form of anxiety that instigates the need to put pressure on yourself for needing to meet a certain level of financial stability. Working through financial anxiety is hard as it is one of the most common triggers but it is not impossible. I want you to at least take away from this blog the following statement: “There is always going to be more money”. Working your job allows you to consistently receive money weekly, biweekly, monthly or however your job does it. There is money coming in. The choices on how to spend that money is completely up to you.
Now I am not saying you can’t go enjoy yourself and give yourself some self-care. I am saying that perhaps you don’t need to do self-care five or six days a week costing an excessive amount every day. Money is a part of this world but that doesn’t mean it needs to be a part of you. Yes, it allows you to live the life you need but can take away from enjoying moments or having experiences. Be mindful, know the choices you have when spending money, and make sure each choice is supporting the ideal, relaxed reality that you need to live your life.
